Our Journey with Infertility

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Well all good things must have a bad day, and this day on our honeymoon was by far the worst day we were here! At least we got to spend it with the one we love right? So we had booked our day to go on a tour to the Mayan ruins called Chichen Itza. We were told they would pick us up from our hotel we would drive 2 hours to the ruins, stop eat lunch, explore this old town with cool churches and then return home by seven. This is completely not how our day went. They did pick us up on time and then we sat on a bus for 5 hours until we got to the ruins. Once we got there they were amazing until they told us we only had an hour to look around. There were so many buildings to look at, an hour was not nearly enough time. But this is what we got to look at and I will try my hardest to share with everyone what we learned about them.

This building was their main building and had a step for everyday of the year. On one day every so many year the sun aligns shadows on the edge of the stairs to look like a snake slithering down. They used to let people climb up the steps but they don't let you anymore.

This building was used to sacrifice people. If your birthday was between August 6-10 you were considered a god and would be sacrificed. The little guy that you can see at the top is where they would put the heart to offer up.
These towers are believed by the LDS religion to be made for the 2000 stripling warriors because there are exactly 2000 of them.
This is where they would play a game kind of like basketball and each team would have to try and get the ball through this little hole and they could not use their hands or feet. The captain of the winning team would chop off the head of the captain of the loosing team. While we were walking around looking at all of this cool stuff it was pouring rain and we were soaking wet!

This is a well at the end of the road and I am not really quite sure why it was there. Probably just for water. After we left here and were soaking wet they told us they were taking us to some swimming hole for 20 minutes. We were not planning on this so we did not bring our swim stuff and we had still not been fed yet! We were starving!

I wish we could have swam here cause this was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to! After this they finally fed us! YAY! Then we stopped in this little old town that was famous for its old beautiful churches. This is the only church we got to see cause they gave us 10 minutes when we got of the bus to get back on.
When we got back on the bus it was about 630 pm and we still had a three hour drive back to where we were staying. We were still wet from the rain, freezing cold and hungry. When we finally got into town they started dropping people off of our huge bus at each of their hotels, which took hours! And of course just our luck we ended up being the very last ones to get dropped off!  About 5 miles before our hotel our bus blew a tire, and we barely made it into the entrance of our place. We were so exhausted from our day we got back to the room and ordered room service and then slept in the next day until noon.

On our last night there the weather was very rainy and the wind was blowing pretty hard. We just had a relaxing day and went down to the beach and layed under a cabana and watched the lighting storm over the ocean. It was amazing. And then when we got back to our room we had these two giant moth friends that wanted to join us. They did not even move when we opened the door. This was the best honeymoon a girl could ask for! I am so lucky to have married such an amazing man that takes such good care of me:)
